DescriptionBrass, German silver, double coil, telescopic tuning slide at leadpipe, three rotary valves (1, ½, 1½), horseshoe stop, clock-spring return.
Typical South German or Austrian post horn with valves. Instruments of this type were offered, for example, by Anton Betzenhammer in Munich in 1879. A characteristic of South German, Saxon, and Austrian valved post horn models is the arrangement of the leadpipe at an acute angle to the bell. Post horns of this design were made and used in the postal service until the 1930s.
