Trumpet model developed to perform natural trumpet parts on a valve trumpet when no natural-trumpet players were available yet. During the Heinrich Schütz Festival in Herford (Germany) in 1951, Helmut Finke (1923-2009) was encouraged by performances on historic instruments from the collection of Pastor Dr. Wilhelm Bernoulli, Greifensee (Switzerland, now at the Historisches Museum Basel). The musicologist Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Ehmann (1904-1989) organized this festival and promoted the creation of trumpets based on historic models. The slender bell is inspired by the bell shape of a natural trumpet. Finke used a similar bell profile in his coiled natural trumpet with vent holes, developed in collaboration with oboist Otto Steinkopf (see 03546). Finke's instruments were introduced to the United States during Ehmann's choir and orchestra concert tour in 1961.
