DescriptionBrass, double loop, tuning slide at second bow, removable leadpipe (shank), three Périnet valves (1, ½, 1½), top-sprung, spring inside barrel, alignment by one key on piston (brass), single water key at first bow, windway 3-2-1.

Based on the serial number, this cornet can be dated to 1882, the year when Henry Distin moved from New York to Philadelphia and started employment with James Welsh Pepper (1858-1919). The wording in the signature indicates that the instrument was not actually made in the United States but imported from Europe. The “Berlin model” was the cheapest of Distin's models.
