SignedEngraved on silver shield applied to bell: HENRY DISTIN / MAKERS / LONDON A second, unidentified stamp underneath the shield (visible from the inside of the bell)MarkingsStamped on valve cases, respectively: 1, 2, 3DescriptionSilver-plated brass (largely worn off), double loop, tuning slide at second bow, removable leadpipe (shank), first and third valve transitional Stölzel/Périnet, second valve Périnet (1, ½, 1½), top-sprung with spring in capsule, alignment by one key on brass pistons, modèle anglais, windway 3-2-1

Valves with pistons and valve casings of two different sizes: First and third valves are more slender because the tubing leading into them and out of them is arranged only on two sides (left and right), similar to the Stölzel valve. The second valve is wider because it is constructed in the normal manner of a Périnet valve with passages on three sides (left, right and front).

Distin’s signature placque hides the maker's signature that is directly stamped on the bell. A possible maker might be Gautrot aîné in Paris, who used a similar valve design in a cornet that survives at the Musical Instrument Museum Edinburgh (no. 2935).
