DescriptionBrass, German silver, single loop, telescopic tuning slide with gear adjustment at leadpipe, three top-action string-operated rotary valves (1, ½, 1½), stop arm, spiral-spring return.
This cornet is an example of a new, narrower cornet design with wide-flaring bell that was advertised as "Newly Improved Cornet, For Leaders" in a catalog of the Boston Musical Instrument Manufactory from 1869. Moses Slater’s catalogs of 1871 and 1874 show a similar type of E-flat cornet, however, with a more bugle-like bore and bell flare.
