DescriptionBrass, double loop, tuning slide at second bow, three Stölzel valves (1, ½, 1½), spring in barrel, clapper key for left hand.
Black wooden case with original green cloth lining (faded) and brass fittings; three original, unstamped crooks and two tuning shanks of brass; silver trumpet mouthpiece stamped “ BENGE CG 3 S” (not original).
Typical English cornopean with clapper key. It is likely that this instrument is a Saxon import to London and that the signature refers to the dealer. A similar cornopean is illustrated in the draft to a catalog by Wilhelm Petzold, Markneukirchen, Saxony, from about 1850.
