DescriptionSilver-plated brass, double loop, tuning slide at second bow, removable leadpipe (B-flat shank), three Périnet valves (1, ½, 1½), top-sprung, spring outside stem, alignment by one key on piston (nickel-silver), double water key (first and third bows), windway 3-2-1.

Another B-flat cornet by J. Higham, serial number 45787 (MIMEd no. 3877), was “presented by Joseph Higham to Stubbins valve brass band, won by contest Augst. 1892” helping to date the current instrument to 1892, or slightly earlier. This cornet was actually made during the era of Joseph Higham’s son-in-law and successor Peter Robinson, who took over in 1883.
