DescriptionBrass; garland with straight upper edge, stamped and chased thistle, shamrock, and rose decoration; half-round rim wire on top of lower garland edge, which is not folded over the bell's edge; impressed helical-fluting ferrules, surrounded by dots, stripes, and acanthus leaves.
This short-model, double-looped trumpet was a modification of the English single-loop, long natural or parade trumpet. The shorter length made this design more suited for the military, in combat and on horseback. The short trumpet is, therefore, occasionally referred to as Cavalry Trumpet (A. Hipkins).
