DescriptionCopper (body, mouthpiece cup); brass (mouthpiece ferrule, knob, bell embellishments); irregular bell represents stylized makara's mouth (mouth of a sea dragon); fixed cupped mouthpiece formed of indented disk, no backbore.
The combination of copper and brass, the plain knob design, and the seamed tubing appears western. It is conceivable that this instrument was influenced by English brasswind traditions, while the Indian subcontinent was under British rule.
