DescriptionSilver-plated brass, double loop, tuning slide at second bow, three rotary valves (1, ½, 1½) arranged vertically to be operated like piston valves, stopped by shape of link, clock-spring return with regulating gear.

Removable silver shank for B-flat (crooks lost); silver cornet mouthpiece stamped “HAWKES / 2 MODEL / HAWKES & SON. LONDON” (not original).

Dating based on address in the signature, name Henry Distin (not Henry Distin & Co.) and shape of trade mark. This model is listed as “Perpendicular rotary cornet in Bb, 4 crooks” in Distin's "Complete Catalog of Military Musical Instruments" from 1857.
