Unusual mouthpiece with cast floral ornaments.
Typical, multiple-coiled, nineteenth-century French hunting horn. The firm Gautrot was founded in 1845 by Pierre Louis Gautrot. The trade names Gautrot-Marquet and Gautrot aîné were used from 1875 onwards. Specializing in cheaper-quality brass instruments, this firm could offer lower prices than any of their competitors. This is reflected in this plain, undecorated instrument. The only decorative element is the mouthpiece, which may be original, since the very small size of the receiver requires a special mouthpiece.
