DescriptionBrass, double loop, tuning slide at second bow, three rotary valves (1, ½, 1½), internal stop, arc-of-circle opening in top valve cap, clock-spring return.
Mahogany case with paper labels referring to compartments for crooks and shanks (MI-B, MI, SI-B, RE, LA-B, LA, SOL, FA), original key; two shanks, five crooks, and one straight coupler; silver plated brass mouthpiece (contemporary with instrument).
The workshop of Jean Finck (1783-1858) is listed in Strasbourg directories from 1830 onward. By 1844, Finck retired and left the workshop to his sons Charles (1818–ca. 1880), Jean (1809–1877), Frédéric (born 1821 and active as instrument maker until 1858), and August (1823–1858). The valve type found on this instrument was commonly used in Strasbourg until 1855.
