DescriptionBaritone or bass oboe in boxwood, with bassoon-like lower joint and brass keys. Originally a two-key instrument, it was converted to a ten-key instrument. Pitched an octave below the regular oboe, this instrument was designed so that the bell would face the player, rather than pointing outward.
