DescriptionGerman silver, tuning slide forming small loop after valve section, fixed leadpipe, three top-action string-operated rotary valves (1, ½, 1½), stop arm, spiral-spring return.
This over-the-shoulder cornet with characteristic small tuning-slide loop after the valve section matches an instrument depicted in a catalog by the dealer John Howard Foote from 1893 (no. 507). In 1875, similar E-flat cornets were offered by John F. Stratton, Foote's former parter. Stratton imported instruments from Saxony, where he collaborated with factories producing for the American market.
