Michael Saurle offered keyed bugles in C with six keys in a prize courant from 1826/40. The tear-drop shape of the key saddles indicates that this keyed bugle was built in the middle period of Saurle’s career. Earlier keyed bugles from his workshop show rectangular brass saddles, while later ones have pillars with ball-shaped heads. The keyed bugle, based on the English model, was an important instrument for playing the melody in Bavarian brass bands in the mid 1820s.
