Written in pencil on inside of lower treble rib, partially underneath corner block: 3 X
DescriptionTop: two-piece, quarter-cut spruce: fine grain broadening toward the flanks; dowel through top into bottom block, just above saddle, now missing
Back: one-piece, quarter-cut maple: narrow curl descending from treble to Bass; oak (?) dowel through back button into neck heel
Ribs: quarter-cut maple: narrow curl
Head and neck: plain maple
Purfling: double; inner band reverse colored
Decoration: inlaid with symmetrical geometric motif on top and back: mother-of-pearl diamonds and reverse-colored purfling inlaid on each bout of top, continuing from inner band of purfling; similar decoration on back, with further mother-of-pearl and stained hardwood geometric inlay along center line, continuing from inner band of purfling
Varnish: medium brown, staining varnish; shaded on back near inlaid decoration
Fingerboard: ebony; small maple wedge added to raise height
Pegs: evidence of machine heads, now removed
Saddle: extended slightly into upper portion of rib, now missing
F-holes: undercut
Linings: spruce
Corner blocks: spruce
Bottom block: spruce; grain runs parallel to top and back
Other: circular saw and burn marks visible on inside of ribs
