DescriptionShallow, double-headed barrel drum with tacked, pigskin heads. Wooden shell painted red. Heads fixed to shell using hammered brass tacks. Polychromatic painting on both heads depicting a phoenix and a dragon, symbols traditionally associated with Chinese music. Drums like this were produced in China specifically for American markets, as Chinese toms were a necessary part of early-twentieth-century trap sets.
