DescriptionTop: two-piece, quarter-cut spruce: wide grain; filled flaw in lower bass corner, under purfling
Back: one-piece, semi-slab-cut maple: plain
Ribs: maple cut off-the-quarter: plain
Head and neck: maple: plain; tall rise over top edge; pegbox terminates in an abstract lion's head with holes drilled in the ears, and a separate red-painted maple tongue, the end carved into a dowel, glued into a hole drilled in the mouth
Arching: full, symmetrical arching begins far inside purfling; possibly machine-carved
Decoration: castle on a rock outcrop with turrets and crenellated towers carved in relief on lower back; silver-colored metal inserted into three window openings
Varnish: light brown; shaded over back decoration
Fingerboard: ebony; later
Nut: black-stained dark hardwood
Tailpiece: ebony; decoratively molded saddle carved rather than inlaid; decorative reeding and fluting below curved groove at bottom end; scalloped bottom edge; one silver-plated brass fine tuner
Tailgut: red gut
Pegs: four black-varnished ebony with mother-of-pearl eyes
Saddle: black-varnished walnut; set into top
Endpin: ebony; possibly later
