DescriptionExperimental model Violin with very deep, narrow body, the circular soundholes cut into soundboards on the sides, rather than the top, and the top, back, and neck carved from a single piece of slab-cut hackberry or elm.
Top: one-piece hackberry or elm; same piece as back and neck; hole of 15 mm diameter under end of fingerboard plugged with hackberry
Back: one-piece hackberry or elm; same piece as top and neck; curves outward in upper and lower bouts; large, prominent lower outward curve functions as shoulder rest
Sides: slab-cut hackberry or elm; circular soundholes of 25-26 mm diameter cut into each side in center of upper third; slightly rounded edges
Head and neck: hackberry or elm; same piece as top and back; very large scroll
Arching: slightly arched top and back
Edging: not scooped
Purfling: none
Varnish: medium brown stain
Fingerboard: medium-brown-stained maple
Nut: dark-brown-stained maple or fruitwood; upper two-thirds scooped inward; set into neck
Tailpiece: medium-brown-stained maple; dark-brown-stained maple or fruitwood saddle; pointed leaf with jagged edges incised into face
Tailgut: none; thin, bottom portion glued between endpin and chinrest
Pegs: four light-brown-stained hackberry or elm; no collars

Endpin: large block carved from bottom end of hackberry or elm piece forming top, back, and neck; rounded lower side; ridges on bass and treble sides emerging from inward curves
Chinrest: slab-cut hackberry or elm; glued to thin, bottom portion of tailpiece
