DescriptionShallow, double-headed barrel drum with tacked, pigskin heads. Wooden shell painted red. Heads fixed to shell using hammered brass tacks. Polychromatic painting on both heads depicting a phoenix and a dragon. Two metal rings mounted opposite one another on wooden shell for suspending instrument. Instrument wholesalers and manufacturers, such as Ludwig and Gretsch, imported drums like this for an ever-expanding American market.
