DescriptionBody of wood, hollowed out from two halves with gussets at bell end, covered with leather, painted black.
Brass receiver ferrule with four double-grooved lines.
Six large front fingerholes, no keys.
Bocal fixed with brass wing screw.

The slightly flaring bell with gussets, the large fingerholes, and the wing screw at the bocal indicate a nineteenth-century date. The instrument appears to be a Baudouin imitation. It represents a typical church serpent (serpent d'eglise) of the type that was in use in France throughout the nineteenth century.
