DescriptionDark tropical hardwood body in five sections, with tuning slide in head joint. Simple system keywork with eight saltspoon keys mounted in turned ring and blocks. Ivory headcap and ferrules, except for a single animal horn ring on the lower middle joint. This is a large-holed, English-style flute. Jabez Camp made high-quality flutes and clarinets at a factory in a part of Litchfield called Fluteville. Initially in partnership with Asa Hopkins, Camp became the main shareholder in 1837 and ran the business until selling out to Firth & Hall of New York 1839. He continued working for Firth & Hall until 1841, when he retired from instrument making.
