DescriptionA one-keyed ivory flute with tortoiseshell and horn decoration. The Scherer workshop was located in Butzbach, which was home to many artisans who specialized in crafting objects from ivory. Scherer flutes were popular with wealthy amateurs, who prized these ivory instruments for their appearance perhaps as much as, or more than, their musical properties.
