ProvenanceAccording to NMM's founder Arne B. Larson, this instrument was bought by his father, Adolf B. Larson, from a Spanish War veteran in 1900. It was played by Adolf between 1900 and 1918. Adolf gave it to Arne B. when he turned sixteen in 1920. Later on, Arne B. gave it to his son, André P. Larson, who played it in the Golden Age of Bands ensemble beginning in 1968. André kept the clarinet close by in the museum until his retirement in 2011. Arne B. said this was the first instrument he "collected," and it represents the very beginning of his collection, which is the founding collection of the NMM.
