This trumpet was custom-made for Dale Thompson, one of the first American Yamaha trumpet artists who collaborated with Yamaha engineer, Yoshihiro Kaji, and Yamaha trumpet designer, Kenzo Kawasaki, in the development of Yamaha trumpets. In 1970, Thompson, who also played lead trumpet in the touring Glenn Miller Orchestra (1967-1973), received this trumpet directly from Yoshihiro while touring Japan. This trumpet, serial number 001, became the prototype for the professional Yamaha trumpet model YTR-6320, one of Yamaha's most successful lines in the 1980s and 1990s.
