DescriptionFlorentine makers Gabrielli and Carcassi produced highly arched, Stainer-influenced violins, contrary to the Amati influence more prevalent in Italy in the eigtheenth century.
Top: two-piece, quarter-cut spruce: fine grain; multiple wood pins through top into top block; one wood pin through top into bottom block on treble side of center joint
Back: two-piece, quarter-cut maple: narrow curl ascending from center joint; maple pin through back into bottom block on bass side of center joint, set in far from edge; later button
Ribs: quarter-cut maple: narrow to medium curl; each rib curl angled in opposite direction from previous rib
Head and neck: maple: head plain, grafted neck, narrow curl
Arching: very high
Varnish: golden
