Description
Extremely ornately engraved, Wonder model tenor saxophone by C. G. Conn, Ltd., Elkhart, Indiana, ca. 1916. The engravings on this silver- and gold-plated instrument were created by Julius Stenberg (1868-1954), one of Conn’s top engravers, who worked for the company for 64 years. Included among the engravings are the Spirit of ’76, an American Indian, pixies playing musical instruments, Uncle Sam, an eagle, St. George and the dragon, mythological figures, Venus, satyrs, muses, and flowers.
