ProvenanceAccording to donor, this instrument was obtained in 1972 from John V. Zechter, Sr., Helena, Montana. The clarinet was played by his father, John G. Zechter, in Ellis Band in the early 1900s. Trained as a bandmaster in Germany, John G. was the first violinist in Kaiser Wilhelm’s dance band. He also organized the National Guard band in Montana.
