DescriptionGerman-silver-plated brass, body in double loop with large coil, circle closed with dummy tube, tuning slide at small first bow, fixed curved leadpipe, three side-action (lever over) string-operated rotary valves (1, ½, 1½), double cork, spiral-spring return.

Similar alto horns in helicon shape were offered by the Boston Musical Instrument Manufactory in catalogs of 1869, 1874 and 1887, and by David C. Hall, also Boston, in a catalog from 1879. Provenance from Boston is therefore likely.
