DescriptionSolid silver; French rim; some ferrules without decoration, some with impressed lines; main tuning slide at second bow.

The signature refers to Sax's appointment in 1854 as maker for the military department of the Emperor. Trumpets of this type were used in the squadron of the Hundred Guards (Cent-gardes) of Napoléon III, and are commonly known as "trompettes à l’angle." The angled orientation of the bell was supposedly more suited for the cavalry.
