J. W. Pepper offered this "Improved French Piston, Bb Cornet, Pocket Model” in a Catalog of Band Instruments, published in Philadelphia, 1884. One surviving pocket cornet of this design is known to have the name Gautrot stamped, while most others are stamped with dealers or trade names. Yet, it is very likely they were all made in the large steam-operated factory of Gautrot âiné, run after 1883 by Couesnon in Paris - first as Couesnon, Gautrot et Cie., and then from 1888 as Couesnon et Cie.
