DescriptionBrass with painted geometric and floral decoration in red and yellow (original paint remnants restored); three telescoping sections; bosses at the joints filled with rattling material; integral mouthpiece, copper sheet pressed into cup-shape, folded over top edge of first section and soldered to it.
The kanā is played in festivals, weddings and processions in the damāi bājā ensemble together with the curved trumpet (narsĩgā), and an oboe and kettledrum.
