DescriptionNickel-plated brass with purple-tinted lacquer (body), clear-lacquered brass (slide bows and third-valve pull-ring), red lacquer (finger buttons and valve caps), clear-lacquered nickel-silver (outer slides), single loop, main tuning slide at first bow, three Périnet valves (1, ½, 1½), top-sprung, spring outside hollow stem, alignment by one key on plastic spring anchor plate, nickel-silver-plated brass pistons, single water key at main tuning slide, trigger with pull-ring at third valve, windway 3-2-1.
Massive red-lacquered brass mouthpiece.
This trumpet (nicknamed "Blues Boy") was exhibited at the 1996 International Trumpet Guild Convention in Long Beach, California. It has a very wide bell throat, inspired by David Monette’s flumpet (a cross between a flugelhorn and a trumpet). The overall proportion of conical tubing is also greater than in a normal trumpet, resulting in a darker, warmer sound. Later, Andy Taylor developed this type into the "Phat Boy" series, “a big, phat, huge, thick sounding trumpet” (Taylor). Andy Taylor has made one instrument of this type for Gregory Davis, Miles Davis’s son: “He wanted what his dad would have bought now, and that also pays homage to his father” (Taylor).
