ProvenanceArne B. Larson Collection, Vermillion, South Dakota, 1979.
According to Arne B. Larson's notes found in case, this clarinet was brought from Norway by Johannes Ouren, brother-in-law of Adolf Larson's Aunt Oliane, in 1868. Arne B. Larson says that this was the first Bb clarinet ever owned by the Larson family (they had aquired an Eb clarinet prior to this). Ouren apparently brought the instrument to Fillmore County, Minnesota. It was then brought to Linden Township, Minnesota, ca. 1870, and used by Adolf Larson. Arne B. Larson says he "learned to play the scale on this instrument, 1915." However, Arne B. Larson's inventory states that he obtained the instrument from Kugler of Minneapolis, Minnesota, 1939.
