DescriptionBoxwood with ivory ferrules. Simple system with 5 brass keys with square, flat covers. Barrel lined with metal.
Originally founded by brothers George and John Astor, the workshop became known as Astor & Company around 1798. The younger of the two brothers, John, moved to New England in 1783, acting as a woodwind dealer and importer. Not long after, he transitioned to the fur trade and real estate, ventures which proved considerably more profitable.
