DescriptionWillow branch, made in two halves, with birch-bark cover; bell wrapped-around birch-bark without wooden core, held together by split wooden pin; integral cup-shaped mouthpiece.
Two types of birch-bark trumpets (tuohitorvi) can be distinguished in Finland: straight and crooked. This instrument represents a crooked example, reflecting the natural growth of the willow branch. It combines two methods of construction, birch-bark wound around a wooden core and wound around itself.
