Little is known about a maker Bouchmann from Annonay, a commune and city in the north of the Ardèche department in southeastern France, but some construction details of this instrument are characteristic of the Lyon style of manufacturing.

Recent research also revaled details for an Alsacian music professor, M. Bouchmann, at Le Collège d'Annonay, ca. 1836 (Chomel, "Le Collège d’Annonay, 1800-1880." 1902), and for one Bernard Bouchemann, musician, aged 70, resident of Annonay, deceased on 27 January 1838 (Archives de l'Ardèche).
