ProvenanceDonor purchased the melodeon "from Clarence and Della Schanke, October 24, 1966. They had purchased it about eight years prior to that [ca. 1958] from a Mrs. Dollinger in St. James, Minnesota. They were told that it had "belonged to Salmon P. Chase, Secretary of the Treasury in President Lincoln's cabinet."
