DescriptionMade specifically for use with New Violin Family instruments. Maxwell Kimball (d. 1996), an architect by trade, was one of the founding members of the Catgut Acoustical Society. He was particularly interested in researching the properties of bows, and was also involved in developing bows for the Hutchins violin octet, the design of which involved his assistance (project begun in 1957-1958).

Head: no chamfers on back
Handle: ebony cap on end of handle, 5 mm long, also forming nipple
Frog: ebony with rounded back corner; silver ferrule, heel-plate, and lining; nickel-silver pins in heel-plate on underside and back side of frog; front corners of ferrule chamfered; mother-of-pearl eyes enclosed in silver rings; mother-of-pearl slide
Adjuster: ebony overlaid with silver; two large silver pins, one each on opposite facets, close to inside edge
Tip plate: ebony-lined ivory; does not extend up nose
Wrapping: silver wire
Grip: brown leather with red cloth tape between grip and wrap
