Maxwell Kimball (d. 1996), an architect by trade, was one of the founding members of the Catgut Acoustical Society. He was particularly interested in researching the properties of bows, and was also involved in developing bows for the Hutchins violin octet, the design of which involved his assistance (project begun in 1957-1958).
