Oppenheim (family)

LocationLondon, England, Europe
BiographyOppenheim family may be Moses (father), and two sons Henry and Michael.
The directory listings only refer to these names as "merchants" throughout the years. It is likely that instruments bearing Oppenheim stamps were actually made by someone else operating in London, and dealt/sold by this family.

"Moses Oppenheim" is listed in London directories since at least 1768.
"Michael Oppenheim" is listed for the first time in 1792.
"M. & H. Oppenheim" is listed from 1794.
"M. & Sons Oppenheim" is listed once in 1796.
"M. (or Mich.) Oppenheim" and "H. Oppenheim" listed separately, at different addresses, Mansell and King streets respectively, from 1810
"H. Oppenheim & Co." from 1814
From 1820, both brothers are individually listed, but in different numbers of the same Mansell street. Henry, under "H. & Co." and "H.", began to advert as toy warehouse, cutlery, glass manufactory, beads and "fancy" goods. They stay in same addresses till at least 1850.
"Mich. & Son Oppenheim" 1823-1841 at 27 Mansell st.
"A[rthur]. & W[alter]. Oppenheim" listed at 27 Mansell st. as mahogany and timber merchants (probably sons of Michael?) 1832-1841
"Oppenheim Brothers" listed between 1844-49 as importers and factors at 17 Mansell.
From 1850, the recognizable addresses and names for these merchants disappear.
