This oval trumpet is a modification of the oval flugelhorn (Kuhlohorn). It has a narrower bore profile than the flugelhorn and was intended as a brighter instrument to play the top part of the "trombone choir" (Posaunenchor). This particular instrument was offered as "Trompete no. 17½" in Glier’s Sonderliste P from ca. 1926. The firm of August Clemens Glier, established in 1878, made only string instruments; however, they distributed brass instruments purchased from smaller workshops in the vicinity of Markneukirchen and Graslitz.
