Schilke started making the E3L tuning bell E-flat/D trumpet in 1968, describing the model in catalogs as follows: The model ‘E3L’ custom-built trumpet in ‘E’ and ‘D’ is our most popular ‘E/D’ trumpet. This instrument comes standard with both additional bell and slides in the key of ‘D’ ... Detachable Tuning Bells are available on almost all custom-built trumpets.
