SignedNoneDescriptionBowed, vertically-held folk instrument played throughout northern India, southern Afghanistan, and south Asia. Elaborate, hand-painted flowers and leaves on body and pegs. Carved from a single block of hardwood with separate fingerboard, neck, incurved sides, and skin belly. Three bowed gut strings, seventeen brass and steel sympathetic strings. Three sympathetic string pegs mounted on side of hollow neck, the strings now missing. Rosewood bridge. Horn nut. Strings looped around two rosewood pegs on lower edge of body. Braided cloth strap hooked through holes drilled in back side of body.DimensionsTotal sarinda length: 705 mm
