The letter 'G' represents the maker’s name, because all parts were manufactured in house; no. 7 indicates the standard model; 'a' stands for the third-valve trigger mechanism, operated by the right-hand thumb, and 'N' for nickel-silver valve casings (N = Neusilber). The Ganter firm changed ownership in 1989 and this model was discontinued in 1992, when some of its features entered the standard model.
The long handle of the water key allows it to be opened by the right-hand little finger while playing. This design, known as “Wiener Klappe,” has the effect of a vent-hole and is intended to improve the response and intonation of d3.
