DescriptionBrass, mother-of-pearl finger buttons, single loop, main tuning slide at first bow, three Périnet valves (1, ½, 1½), top-sprung, spring inside hollow stem, alignment by two unequal lugs on spring anchor plate, copper-plated brass pistons, single water key at main tuning slide, windway 3-2-1.
Valves constructed according to US patent 1,457,623, filed October 24, 1921, patented June 5, 1923, by Alson F. Fairchild of Elkhorn, Wisconsin. Fairchild's valves enter and exit on the same side of the piston shaft and are aligned vertically. According to the patent, this design makes the tone clearer and purer, and requires less effort in producing the sound compared with the ordinary construction. The alignment of the valve ports also simplifies production. Fairchild may have worked for the Frank Holton Company in Elkhorn, Wisconsin.
