The "McIntyre System" was invented by Thomas F. and Robert J. McIntyre of Thomaston, Connecticut. US Patent No. 3,015,981. Filed September 9, 1958 and granted January 9, 1962. The Mclntyre Company was in existence in Thomaston, Connecticut, from approximately 1950 until 1965.
All of McIntyre’s inventions are applied to the upper section of the clarinet and are to be fingered principally with the left hand. The bottom section is unchanged and is fingered exactly like a regular Boehm System instrument. The result is a new fingering for the throat tones.
