Johannes Scherzer (1922-2018) was trained by his uncle, Kurt Knoth, in the Rino brass workshop, founded in 1900 by Emil Knoth. After receiving his master craftsman certificate in 1951, Scherzer took over Rino, beginning in 1961. In the 1970s, all instruments were engraved with "Rino" and "Meister J. Sherzer." In 1984, Scherzer's workshop was incorporated into the VEB Blechblas- und Signalinstrumentenfabrik (B&S), trading as "Sinfonia.” In the 1980s, Scherzer was producing exclusively rotary valve trumpets.
